Seasonal Assistance

The Salvation Army of the Virginia Peninsula offers programs and events throughout the year to help families experience the joys of the seasons.

Angel Tree Assistance

We put new clothes and toys under the tree for children who usually have to go without Christmas gifts. Anonymous donors adopt our “Angels” in a Christmas tradition that makes the season brighter for both the gift giver and receiver.  For more information on the Angel Tree assistance program, call the Virginia Peninsula Corps at (757) 838-4875.

Thanksgiving Meals

At the Salvation Army Virginia Peninsula, we try to make the holiday a little brighter by providing a Thanksgiving dinner basket for families in need or a Thanksgiving meal for those who might otherwise go without.

Easter

we provide low-income seniors and newly- housed (formerly homeless) veterans with personal care bags and household supplies.

Back-to-School Assistance

we plan to continue with the Back-to-School Bash-- a free community event with music, food, and entertainment for families where we'll distribute backpacks and school supplies to registered families. Registration begins in July.

Adult Programs

We no longer hold bingo, but open gym, basketball, dodgeball, pickleball, and volleyball are all available for adults with a community center membership. We also have a "resource center" where people can use computers and the internet to complete job applications, apply for assistance, and complete other tasks that the internet requires.
